TORONTO - The Toronto Marlies stopped a late push by the St. John's Ice Caps in a 5-3 victory Saturday.

Josh Leivo scored twice, while Colin Smith, TJ Brennan and Brendan Leipsic added one apiece.

Brett Lernout, Bud Holloway, and Charles Hudon scored for St. John's.

Lernout opened the scoring just 2:27 into the first period, but the Marlies replied with four straight goals.
