QMJHL Roundup: Kielly scores winner as Islanders edge Armada in shootout

CHARLOTTETOWN - Kameron Kielly scored the tying goal with less than two minutes remaining in the third period, then added the shootout winner as the Charlottetown Islanders earned their third straight victory, 3-2 over the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada on Thursday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Kielly forced extra time with his power-play goal 18:46 into the third. Daniel Sprong opened the scoring for Charlottetown (26-24-7) just 58 seconds into the first and assisted on Kielly's tying goal.

Kristian Pospisil and Guillaume Archambault scored for the Armada (20-28-8), who have lost four straight.

Islanders goaltender Mason McDonald turned aside 22 shots through regulation and overtime and stopped all three skaters he faced in the shootout.

Blainville-Boisbriand's Samuel Montembeault shouldered the loss after making 38 saves over 65 minutes and 2-of-3 in the shootout.

Charlottetown was 1 for 4 on the power play while the Armada failed to take advantage of their four chances with the man advantage.

SCREAMING EAGLES 9 MOOSEHEADS 2

SYDNEY, N.S. — Maxim Lazarev scored two goals and set up another and Pierre-Luc Dubois had a goal and three assists to power the Screaming Eagles over Halifax.

Massimo Carozza, Michael Joly and Giovanni Fiore had a goal and two helpers apiece for Cape Breton (30-22-6) and Evgeny Svechnikov, Duncan MacIntyre, and Colin MacSween rounded out the attack.

Brett Crossley and Cooper Jones supplied the offence for the Mooseheads (17-33-7), who have dropped their last five games.

CHICOUTIMI, Que. — Jake Smith and Nicolas Roy scored in the shootout to lift the Sagueneens over Rimouski.

Jonathan Bourcier scored in regulation for Chicoutimi (25-21-9).

Dylan Montcalm scored for the Oceanic (30-18-6), tying the game 19:27 into the third.
