Vancouver Canucks forward Brandon Sutter had surgery to repair a sports hernia Tuesday and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks, the Canucks announced Wednesday.

"Following a period of treatment and evaluation our medical team determined that the best course of action for Brandon was to perform this procedure," Canucks general manager Jim Benning said in a statement. "The surgery was successful and we expect a full recovery."

Sutter, the 11th pick in the 2007 NHL Draft, has not played since Nov. 10, and has four goals and eight points in 16 games. He was acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins on June 28 for forward Nick Bonino, defenseman Adam Clendening, and a second-round pick in 2016.
