WHL Roundup: Oil Kings beat Blades, snap winless streak at eight games

SASKATOON - Patrick Dea turned away 32-of-33 shots as the Edmonton Oil Kings downed the host Saskatoon Blades 3-1 on Thursday in Western Hockey League action.

Tyson Gruninger, Colton Kehler and Brett Pollock supplied the offence for the Oil Kings (4-8-3), who entered the contest with an eight-game losing streak.

Edmonton's last victory was back on Oct. 10 against the Brandon Wheat Kings.

Nolan Reid kept the Blades (6-4-3) from being shut out with a goal in the third period after the Oil Kings had built a three-goal lead.

Saskatoon's Nik Amundrud made 31 saves in a losing cause.

Edmonton went 1 for 5 on the power play while the Blades failed to score on seven chances with the man advantage.

CHIEFS 6 HITMEN 3

CALGARY — Adam Helewka had a pair of goals and Tyson Verhelst only had to make 16 saves as Spokane doubled up the Hitmen.

Markson Bechtold, Curtis Miske, Riley Whittingham and Nik Andersen also found the back of the net for the Chiefs (5-7-2).

Jackson Houck, Radel Fazleev and Jordy Stallard scored for Calgary (7-7-1), which got a 23-save outing from Cody Porter.
