Oshie fitting in fine with Capitals after first skate

T.J. Oshie skated with the Washington Capitals on Wednesday for the first time since he was acquired from the St. Louis Blues on July 2.

Though the forward and his family have yet to settle into their house in Arlington, Va., he told the Washington Post the Capitals already are a great fit and one that feels like home.

"You're nervous enough just having to meet new people," Oshie said. "You don't need any awkwardness. I sensed that from the guys here. I think every single guy has come up and said 'Hi' to me and introduced himself and the coaches and staff. Everything's great."

Oshie was acquired for forward Troy Brouwer, goalie prospect Pheonix Copley and a third-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, and could play on Washington's top line with Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom.

Oshie, the 24th pick in the 2005 NHL Draft, had 19 goals and 55 points in 72 games last season, one season after setting NHL career highs with 21 goals, 39 assists and 60 points in 79 games.

"I think it really hasn't hit me yet," Oshie said. "It's still a whirlwind, almost. … My wife and I are really, really excited. Once we got packed and left the house, we'll move some stuff in today; everyone's making me feel very comfortable."

After seven seasons in St. Louis, four when Oshie and the Blues failed to advance past the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, the 28-year-old said he is ready for a new start.

"We had the same outcome every year in St. Louis and it was starting to feel repetitive," Oshie said. "You didn't really know what else you could do or what you should improve on, and then once you go to a new team you want to get out there, you want to impress everyone. I don't know if you need to be pushed any harder, but if you do, getting traded really gives you that extra push to work harder in the summer and get there and make a difference."
