Mock drafts differ after picks of McDavid, Eichel

The Arizona Coyotes have the third pick of the 2015 NHL Draft and could go in a number of different directions. The route they choose will set the tone for how the rest of the draft plays out.

That same unpredictability played out in NHL.com's final mock drafts.

Staff writers Adam Kimelman and Mike G. Morreale were in agreement that the Edmonton Oilers would select Erie Otters center Connor McDavid at No. 1 and the Buffalo Sabres would take Boston University center Jack Eichel at No. 2.

After that, however, there was little consensus.

One writer saw the Coyotes selecting Boston College defenseman Noah Hanifin at No. 3, while the other believes they'll take McDavid's Erie teammate, center Dylan Strome.

And because of the questions surrounding the third pick, the way the rest of the first round was predicted to fall out is vastly different on both mock drafts.

The final order sees the Toronto Maple Leafs picking at No. 4, followed by the Carolina Hurricanes at No. 5. The New Jersey Devils, Philadelphia Flyers, Columbus Blue Jackets, San Jose Sharks and Colorado Avalanche round out the top 10.

The Maple Leafs are one of six teams with multiple first-round picks; they also have No. 24 from the Nashville Predators. The Oilers (No. 1 and No. 16), the Sabres (No. 2, No. 21), the Coyotes (No. 3, No. 30), the Flyers (No. 7, No. 29) and the Winnipeg Jets (No. 17, No. 25) also have multiple first-round picks.
