Blue Jackets prospect Oliver Bjorkstrand named WHL player of the year

CALGARY - Portland Winterhawks forward Oliver Bjorkstrand has been named the Western Hockey League's player of the year.

Bjorkstrand, a native of Herning Denmark, led the WHL with 63 goals, 118 points and a plus-60 rating over 58 regular-season games.

The six-foot, 168-pound forward was selected in the third round, 89th overall, by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2013 NHL draft.

In other awards, Brandon forward Nolan Patrick was named rookie of the year, Seattle's Taran Kozun took top goaltender honours and Thunderbirds teammate Shea Theodore was awarded top defenceman.
