Devils goalie Kinkaid leaves game with injury

NEWARK, N.J. -- New Jersey Devils goaltender Keith Kinkaid sustained a lower-body injury and was replaced by Cory Schneider with 6:01 remaining in the second period against the Carolina Hurricanes at Prudential Center on Saturday.

Kinkaid appeared to sustain his injury after stretching from right to left to block a shot attempt by Carolina defenseman Justin Faulk.

The Devils led the Hurricanes 3-0 at the time of the injury. Kinkaid made 17 saves and was credited with the 3-1 victory.

Devils interim co-coach Lou Lamoriello confirmed after the game that Kinkaid should be fine and that he will not recall another goalie from the team's American Hockey League affiliate in Albany.

"[Kinkaid] felt something in the lower part of his leg, but right now he's OK," Lamoriello said. "It was Keith's decision on whether or not he felt he needed to come out. He wasn't sure, so you don't take a chance."

Kinkaid was making his eighth start of the season and first since a 6-2 loss against the Montreal Canadiens on Feb. 7. He is 3-4-3 with a 2.59 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage in 12 games.

Schneider, playing in his 51st game, made 15 saves and allowed a third-period goal to Jeff Skinner.
