Senators' Lehner, MacArthur likely out Wednesday

OTTAWA -- Ottawa Senators goaltender Robin Lehner and forward Clarke MacArthur continued to be evaluated Tuesday after they were injured Monday in the second period of a 6-3 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes and did not return for the third period.

Lehner and MacArthur most likely won't be available when the Senators host the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday, the Senators said via Twitter. Ottawa recalled goalie Chris Driedger from the Evansville IceMen of the ECHL on an emergency basis.

MacArthur collided with Lehner when he skated back to try to break up a 3-on-1 which resulted in a goal by the Hurricanes with 52 seconds left in the period.

MacArthur’s head hit Lehner in the chest. Each player was motionless on the ice for several minutes before getting up and leaving the ice.

Lehner allowed four goals on 31 shots before the collision.

The teams were sent to their dressing rooms and the final 52 seconds of the second period were played after the second intermission.

Goalie Andrew Hammond replaced Lehner to start the third period and is probable to get his first NHL start against the Canadiens.

Driedger, 20, leads Evansville with eight wins, including two shutouts. He had two wins for Binghamton of the American Hockey League earlier this season.
