Edmonton Oilers forward Taylor Hall has returned to Edmonton for further assessment of his injured left ankle.

"It wasn't responding like we wanted it to," coach Todd Nelson told the Oilers website. "He's going back to get an MRI just to make sure that we know what we're dealing with. Then we'll go through the process after that."

Hall missed the Oilers' first three games after the All-Star break. He returned and played against the San Jose Sharks on Feb. 2 in 5-4 Edmonton victory and had an assist in 10:41 of ice time. He did not play in Edmonton's past two games.

The Oilers face the New Jersey Devils on Monday at Prudential Center and practiced in New Jersey on Sunday. Defenseman Jeff Petry was also absent, but the Oilers said it was a maintenance day.

Despite missing 11 games this season, Hall is third on the Oilers in points (30) and goals (11), and tied for first in assists (19).
