Staal, Rangers close to six-year extension: report

Defenseman Marc Staal and the New York Rangers are closing in on a six-year contract extension, TSN's Bob McKenzie reported Friday.

The contract is expected to have an average annual value of $5.7 million and contains a no-move clause, ESPN.com reported.

Staal, 28, has one goal and seven points in 41 games this season.

Staal was the 12th pick in the 2005 NHL Draft by the Rangers and has 28 goals and 118 points in 501 regular-season games. He has six goals and 16 points in 68 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
