Longtime NHL goalie Tomas Vokoun, who led the Nashville Predators to their first-ever playoff appearance in 2003-04, has decided to retire, according to Czech daily Sport.

"I think I can be proud of the career I had," he told the publication.

Vokoun played 700 games in 15 seasons with the Montreal Canadiens, Predators, Florida Panthers, Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins. He went 300-288-35-57 with a 2.55 goals-against average, .917 save percentage and 51 shutouts.

After the Canadiens selected him in the ninth round (No. 226) of the 1994 NHL Draft, Vokoun was claimed by the Predators in the 1998 NHL Expansion Draft. He made 383 appearances for Nashville over eight seasons.

Vokoun, 38, backstopped the Czech Republic to gold at the 2005 and 2010 IIHF World Championship. He also won a bronze medal at the 2006 Turin Olympics.

Vokoun played 20 games for the Penguins in 2012-13, but blood clots in his pelvis and subsequent surgery limited him to two games for the Penguins' American Hockey League affiliate in 2013-14.
