WEDNESDAY'S RESULTS

Home Team in Caps

Montreal 2, BUFFALO 1 (SO)

NY RANGERS 4, Detroit 3 (OT)

NY Islanders 3, ANAHEIM 2 (OT)

OVERTIME THREE-FOR-ALL

All three games Wednesday went past regulation, including two that were decided on overtime goals:

* New York Rangers center Derick Brassard scored the game-winner after Detroit Red Wings Tomas Tatar forced the extra period with 7.7 seconds left in the third period.

* New York Islanders captain John Tavares scored twice, including the winner in overtime on the power play, to lift the Islanders past the Anaheim Ducks.

* Montreal Canadiens forward PA Parenteau scored the shootout winner as the Canadiens defeated the Buffalo Sabres 2-1.

RANGERS OVERCOME LATE-GAME PUSH BY RED WINGS

Derick Brassard scored his third career overtime winner 1:50 into the extra period to power the Rangers to a 4-3 victory against the Red Wings. Detroit tied the game at 2-2 in the second period with goals 13 seconds apart and later forced extra time with their second last-minute game-tying goal of the season (also Niklas Kronwall on Oct. 23 vs. PIT, 4-3 OT win).

* Brassard (1-1—2) also notched the overtime winner against the Red Wings on Oct. 26, 2013; he has a point in 10 of his past 12 games vs. DET (4-7—11).

* The Rangers have won the last five games between the two teams dating to a 2-1 overtime win on Mar. 21, 2012, their longest streak vs. DET since an equal stretch from Jan. 3, 1983, to Jan. 16, 1984.

* Rick Nash opened the scoring with his team-leading 10th goal of the season in his 12th game, a mark he achieved in his 29th game in 2013-14. Only Ducks forward Corey Perry (11) has more goals than Nash this season.

* Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault was behind the bench for his 900th NHL game, joining Joel Quenneville (CHI), Lindy Ruff (DAL), Ken Hitchcock (STL), Barry Trotz (WSH), Paul Maurice (WPG) and Darryl Sutter (LAK) as the only active coaches to reach the milestone. Vigneault ranks second among NHL head coaches in regular season wins (364) since the start of the 2006-07 season.

* Henrik Lundqvist had his personal shutout streak against Detroit snapped at 211:08, his longest against one opponent. The streak began on Mar. 21, 2012, and spanned four games (4-0-0). Overall, Lundqvist is 4-0-1 with a 1.54 goals-against average, a .945 save percentage and two shutouts in his past five games at Madison Square Garden.

* Lundqvist stopped a Gustav Nyquist penalty shot in the second period. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it was the second time since 1954 that the Red Wings had a penalty shot against the Rangers; John Vanbiesbrouck denied Petr Klima’s attempt on Feb. 17, 1987.

TAVARES PROPELS ISLANDERS PAST DUCKS

John Tavares scored twice, including his fifth career overtime winner, to lift the Islanders to their first win in Anaheim since Dec. 16, 2010 (0-3-0 since).

* It was Tavares’ first game-winning goal of the season and first overtime winner since Jan. 21, 2012, against the Carolina Hurricanes. The deciding goal was also his fourth power-play goal of the season, moving him into a share of third in the League in that category.

* Kyle Okposo (1-1—2) scored 10 seconds into the second period and assisted on the overtime winner for his fourth multipoint game of the season. He is tied with Tavares for the team lead in assists (nine) and points (14).

* Jaroslav Halak stopped 32 of 34 shots to improve to 4-4-0 this season, snapping a four-game skid after beginning the season with three straight wins.

PARENTEAU LIFTS CANADIENS IN SHOOTOUT

PA Parenteau scored in regulation and added the game-deciding goal in the shootout to lift the Canadiens to a 2-1 win against the Sabres. Montreal has won six straight against Buffalo, its longest streak against the Sabres in franchise history (via Elias).

* Parenteau improved to 14-for-28 (50.0%) in career shootout attempts, including seven game-deciding tallies; he has three game-deciding shootout goals this season on four overall attempts.

* According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Parenteau’s 50.0% career success rate ranks third among active players with at least 25 career attempts (tied for fifth all-time). St. Louis Blues forward T.J. Oshie (27-for-49, 55.1%) and Islanders forward Frans Nielsen (33-for-61, 54.1%) are the only active players with a better success rate in the shootout.

* Andrei Markov (99-349—448, 779 GP) had an assist for his 448th career point, surpassing Doug Harvey (76-371—447, 890 GP) for sole possession of third on the Canadiens all-time points list among defensemen.

* Dustin Tokarski stopped 31 shots and two of three shootout attempts for his second win of the season (2-1-0).

* Former Canadiens Brian Gionta (shootout goal, season-high 20:43 TOI) and Josh Gorges (25:29 TOI) faced their former team for the first time since joining the Sabres in the offseason. Gionta, now the captain of the Sabres, served as Canadiens captain for the past four seasons.

BLACKHAWKS UNVEIL NHL WINTER CLASSIC JERSEY

The Blackhawks unveiled their 2015 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic jersey Wednesday.

Inspired by their 1957 jersey, the white jersey features a lace-up collar and secondary logos on each sleeve; the secondary logos overlap the top two stripes on the sleeve rather than the traditional shoulder placement.
