WHL Roundup: Carter Folk nets hat trick as Hurricanes rout Blades

SASKATOON - Carter Folk was the solution on special teams for the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday.

Folk had a goal on the power play, one short-handed and one in even streghth to record a hat trick for the Hurricanes in their 7-2 rout of the Saskatoon Blades in Western Hockey League action.

Zane Jones struck twice and added an assist for Lethbridge (3-8-1) which won its second-straight game.

Jamal Watson and Kade Jensen rounded out the attack.

Cameron Hebig and Sam McKechnie replied for the Blades (4-8-0).

Stuart Skinner recorded the win, making 33 saves for the Hurricanes while Alex Moodie kicked out 22 shots in the loss.

Lethbridge was 2 for 6 on the power play with Saskatoon being held scoreless on seven attempts.

RED DEER, Alta. — Wyatt Johnson scored two of the Rebels' four second-period goals to get the win over Prince George.

Evan Polei, Gayson Pawlenchuk, Tyler Sandhu and Brett Cote rounded out the offence for Red Deer (4-7-1).

Brad Morrison, Tyler Mrkonjic and Jari Erricson found the back of the net for the Cougars (7-7-0).

CRANBROOK, B.C. — Greg Chase had two goals and an assist for Calgary in its rout over Kootenay.

Kenton Helgesen also struck twice for the Hitmen (7-4-1) while Michael Zipp, Loch Morrison, Beck Malenstyn, Adam Tambellini and Radel Fazleev rounded out the attack.

Troy Murray and Jaedon Descheneau replied for the Ice (3-10-0).

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. — Carter Rigby and Coda Gordan both scored power-play goals in the second period to lead the Broncos by Regina.

Jake DeBrusk added another for Swift Current (8-7-1).

Sam Steel chipped in with his third goal of the season on the power play for the Pats' (5-7-1) lone goal.

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. — Miles Koules and Layne Viveiros each had a goal and two assists for Portland as it beat the Raiders.

Anton Cederholm, Paul Bittner and Keegan Iverson supplied the remainder of the offence for the Winterhawks (4-9-2).

Mackenze Stewart and Jayden Hart had a goal apiece for Prince Albert (5-7-0).

TIGERS 3 WARRIORS 1

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — David Quenneville scored the go-ahead goal on the power play for the Tigers as they skated past Moose Jaw.

Tommy Vannelli and Chad Butcher also chipped in for Medicine Hat (10-1-1).

Tanner Eberle had the lone goal for the Warriors (6-5-1).

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Jayce Hawryluk and John Quenneville both had a goal and three assists for Brandon as it got by the Blazers.

Reid Duke scored a pair while Tim McGauley, Rihards Bukarts, Jesse Gabrielle and Ivan Provorov rounded out the attack for the Wheat Kings (9-2-1).

Deven Sideroff recorded a hat trick for Kamloops (8-5-1) with Ryan Rehill and Luke Harrison picking up the other goals.

VICTORIA — Brandon Magee scored his first of the year on the power play to push the Royals past Vancouver.

Travis Brown also found the back of the net on the power play for Victoria (7-6-1).

Carter Popoff responded with his eighth of the season in the thid period for the Giants (6-6-0).

EVERETT, Wash. — Montreal Canadiens 2014 first-round draft pick Nikita Scherbak struck twice for the Silvertips as they downed Tri-City.

Carson Stadnyk also had a goal for Everett (7-1-3).

Jackson Playfair scored a power-play goal in the third period for the Americans (8-6-0).

KENT, Wash. — Justin Hickman scored twice and added two assists as Seattle toppled Spokane.

Jerret Smith, Scott Eansor and Mathew Barzal also chipped in for the Thunderbirds (5-5-2).

Jason Fram has two goals for the Chiefs (5-3-3) with Kailer Yamamoto picking up a goal of his own.
