ANDERSEN, PERRY HELP DUCKS SOAR PAST SABRES

Frederik Andersen stopped 22 of 23 shots and Corey Perry netted his second hat trick of the season and Anaheim defeated Buffalo 4-1 for its sixth straight victory. At 6-1-0, the Ducks have matched the franchise's best start to a season by wins (6-1-0, 2013-14) and by points (12; also 2013-14, 2006-07).

* Andersen improved to 26-5-0 in his career. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Andersen is the first goalie in NHL history to win 26 of his first 31 decisions.

* Andersen has posted six straight wins to start the season (6-0-0, 1.32 GAA, .951 SV%), matching the longest stretch of his career; he won his first six NHL games from Oct. 20 to Nov. 10 last season. His shutout streak ended at 152:06 with Tyler Ennis' goal at 14:54 of the third period.

* With his seventh career NHL hat trick, Perry now shares the League-lead in goals (eight) and points (10). His other three-goal game came in Anaheim's season opener versus Pittsburgh.

* Elias says that Perry is the sixth player in the past 29 years to record multiple hat tricks in his team's first seven season games. The five others to accomplish the feat in that span also had two such performances: Ilya Kovalchuk (2003, ATL), Brian Savage (1999, MTL), Mario Lemieux (1988, PIT), Glenn Anderson (1987, EDM) and Charlie Simmer (1985, BOS).

* Ryan Getzlaf notched two assists to take the League-lead in that category; his 10 points share the League lead with Perry, the Stars' Tyler Seguin (5-5-10) and the Islanders' John Tavares (3-7-10). He now has 5-9-14 in 11 career games versus Buffalo.

FLYERS USE STRONG THIRD TO WIN INTERSTATE MATCHUP

R.J. Umberger's first goal with Philadelphia in more than six years broke a 2-2 tie at 6:50 of the third period and the Flyers added two more scores in the frame to earn a 5-3 win in Pittsburgh.

* Umberger (1-1-2) played with the Flyers from 2005 to 2008 before spending the past six seasons with the Blue Jackets. Prior to Wednesday, his most-recent goal with Philadelphia was a playoff tally against Pittsburgh on May 13, 2008.

* Flyers forward Pierre-Edouard Bellemare, 29, scored his first NHL goal in his seventh career game. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Bellemare (29 years, 230 days) is the oldest Flyers player to score his first NHL goal with the team since Jiri Dopita (32 years, 348 days) on Nov. 15, 2001.

* Elias also says that Bellemare, a native of Le Blanc-Mesnil, France, is the just the sixth French-born player to score an NHL goal, following Antoine Roussel (DAL), Pat Daley, Paul MacLean, Philippe Bozon and Stephane Da Costa.

* Claude Giroux (0-2-2) tallied his fourth multi-point showing this season and now has 30 points (12-20-32) in 29 career games against PIT, matching his second-highest total against one team (NYR: 6-24-30 in 32 GP; NYI: 8-26-34 in 29 GP). He shares the team lead with seven assists and nine points.

* Jakub Voracek also posted two assists, the second of which was his 300th NHL point (104-196-300). His 22 points (10-12-22 in 21 GP) against PIT are his highest total against any opponent. He shares the team lead with Giroux in both assists (seven) and points (nine).

* Sean Couturier led all skaters with 1-2-3, his first multi-point game since Mar. 15 (0-2-2 vs. PIT).

* The Flyers improved to 18-8-2 against their Keystone State rival since the start of 2010-11 (regular season and playoffs), including a 12-2-1 mark in Pittsburgh.

SCRIVENS BACKSTOPS OILERS TO SECOND STRAIGHT WIN

Ben Scrivens stopped a season-high 32 shots and Nikita Nikitin's tying-breaking goal at 16:08 of the second period stood as the winning tally as the Oilers won 3-2 to hand the Capitals their first regulation loss of the season. The Oilers have now won two straight games after posting a 0-4-1 record in their first five contests.

* Nikitin's goal was his first in an Oilers uniform and the fifth game-winner of his career (first since Nov. 20, 2013 vs. CGY).

* Teddy Purcell notched two assists, including a helper on Nikitin's winner, to bring his career total versus Washington to 8-14-22 in 23 games, his highest total against any team.

* Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored for the second straight game, marking the first time he has tallied in consecutive contests since Jan. 24 and 26 against ARI and NSH.

* Justin Schultz found the back of the net for the second straight game. He now has 2-1-3 in his career versus Washington (3 GP).

TEAMS, FANS SHOW SUPPORT FOR OTTAWA

Teams around the League showed their support for Canada following Wednesday's events in Ottawa.

* Fans at the CONSOL Energy Center joined together to sing "O Canada" prior to the Flyers-Penguins game.

* The Ducks observed a moment of silence in advance of their contest against the Sabres.

* The Oilers and Capitals observed a moment of silence before a powerful rendition of "O Canada" by Samantha King.

Capitals forward Nicklas Backstrom (0-1-1) notched his 500th NHL point (128-372-500, 501 GP). Elias says he is the first player from the 2006 draft to reach the milestone . . . Penguins forward Evgeni Malkin had an assist to extend his point streak to five games (2-6-8), matching his longest stretch from the start of the season (also 2-5-7 to start 2007-08). He now sits two helpers shy of 400 in his NHL career . . . The Wild agreed to terms with forward Charlie Coyle on a five-year contract extension . . . Scott Malkin and Jon Ledecky were introduced Wednesday as the incoming owners of the Islanders . . . Pittsburgh wore their new third jerseys for the first time since unveiling them in mid-September; the design reunites 'Pittsburgh gold' with the skating Penguins logo for the first time since 1992 . . . The Ducks hosted their Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Night.
