Preseason roundup: Miller's Canucks debut success

Ryan Miller stopped all seven shots he faced in his debut with the Vancouver Canucks, and Henrik Sedin assisted on three power-play goals in a 3-0 preseason win against the Calgary Flames at Rogers Center on Friday.

Miller played 30:22. Joacim Eriksson made 11 saves in relief of Miller on the day goalie Jacob Markstrom was placed on waivers.

Linden Vey, Jannik Hansen and Radim Vrbata scored for the Canucks; Daniel Sedin had two assists.

Flames goalie Karri Ramo stopped eight shots successfully. Douglas Carr made 22 saves in two periods.

Capitals 5, Bruins 4: Troy Brouwer scored 2:12 into overtime to give the Washington Capitals a 5-4 preseason win against the Boston Bruins at Verizon Center.

Alex Ovechkin scored two power-play goals for Washington, which got a goal each from Michael Latta and Liam O'Brien, who tied the game 4:55 into the third period.

Philipp Grubauer (nine saves) and Justin Peters (10 saves) allowed two goals each.

Seth Griffith scored twice, and Matt Fraser and Matt Lindblad had one each for Boston, which led 4-2. Jordan Caron had two assists, and Niklas Svedberg made 24 saves.

Canadiens 3, Avalanche 2: Jiri Sekac and Brandon Prust scored third-period goals to lift the Montreal Canadiens to a preseason win against the Colorado Avalanche at Pepsi Colisee in Quebec City.

Ryan O'Reilly gave the Avalanche a 2-1 lead 3:52 into the third period. Erik Johnson scored the only first-period goal to give Colorado a 1-0 lead. Matt Duchene had an assist on each.

Sven Andrighetto scored in the second period for Montreal, which got 28 saves from Dustin Tokarski. Forward Tim Bozon, who recovered from a serious illness, made his NHL preseason debut for the Canadiens.

Semyon Varlamov made 22 saves for Colordao, which lost 3-2 in overtime at Bell Centre on Thursday.

Maple Leafs 6, Sabres 4: Tyler Bozak, Roman Polak and Josh Leivo each had a goal and two assists to help the Toronto Maple Leafs to a preseason win against the Buffalo Sabres at First Niagara Center.

Dion Phaneuf and Leo Komarov each had one goal and one assist for Toronto, which was outshot 38-22. James Reimer made 34 saves.

Defenseman Henrik Tallinder, with the Maple Leafs as a tryout, left the game with a dislocated left shoulder.

Chris Stewart scored twice, and Jake McCabe and Cody McCormick had one goal each for the Sabres. Michal Neuvirth made 16 saves.

Lightning 6, Stars 3: Ben Bishop made 11 saves on 13 shots for the Tampa Bay Lightning in a preseason win against the Dallas Stars at Amalie Arena.

Bishop played 29:46 in his first game since being injured April 8. Evgeni Nabokov made eight saves.

Anton Stralman scored twice, and Steven Stamkos had an assist for Tampa Bay. Cody Kunyk, Nikita Kucherov, Matthew Corrente and Ryan Callahan scored for the Lightning, and Brian Boyle had two assists.

Jason Spezza, Nicolas Blanchard and Brendan Ranford scored for Dallas; Brett Ritchie had two assists. Kari Lehtonen allowed five goals on 18 shots, and Jussi Rynnas made seven saves.

Islanders 3, Devils 2 (SO): Kyle Okposo and Brock Nelson scored in the shootout to give the New York Islanders a preseason win against the New Jersey Devils.

It was the first win for the Islanders in their second annual game at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, which will be their home arena after this final season at Nassau Coliseum.

The Devils were 0-13 in shootouts last regular season.

Power-play goals by Devils Martin Havlat in the second period and Michael Ryder early in the third tied the game 2-2.

Ryan Pulock and Colin McDonald scored first-period goals for the Islanders, who got 26 saves from Chad Johnson.

Keith Kinkaid made 25 saves for the Devils, who won last year in the first NHL game at Barclays Center, 3-0.

Rangers 4, Blackhawks 1: The New York Rangers scored twice in the first period and twice in the third to earn a preseason win against the Chicago Blackhawks at United Center.

Goals by Oscar Lindberg and Anthony Duclair gave New York a 2-0 lead, and J.T. Miller and Marek Hrivik pushed it to 4-1.

Dennis Rasmussen scored for Chicago, which got 25 saves from Corey Crawford.

Henrik Lundqvist started in goal for the Rangers and stopped 15 of 16 shots. Cedrick Desjardins stopped all 15 he faced in relief.

Coyotes 2, Sharks 1: Louis Domingue and Devan Dubnyk combined to make 44 saves in the Arizona Coyotes' preseason shootout win against the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center.

Justin Hodgman scored in regulation and the shootout for Arizona, which also got a shootout goal from Lucas Lessio.

San Jose outshot Arizona 45-18, including 23-6 in the third period and overtime.

Hodgman scored a power-play goal for Arizona 3:27 into the game, and Joe Pavelski scored one for San Jose 7:16 into the second. Pavelski scored a shootout goal.

Domingue stopped all 23 shots he faced in relief of Dubnyk, who made 21 saves.

Antti Niemi stopped 17 of 18 shots in his preseason debut for San Jose.
