Preseason roundup: Ryan's 3 points lead Senators

Bobby Ryan had two goals and an assist in the Ottawa Senators' 3-2 preseason win against the Toronto Maple Leafs at Canadian Tire Centre on Wednesday.

Matt Puempel scored a power-play goal for the Senators, and Clark MacArthur had two assists. Craig Anderson stopped 20 of 22 shots.

Sam Carrick and Morgan Rielly each had a goal and an assist for Toronto, which was outshot 35-22. Antoine Bibeau stopped 16 of 18 shots for the Maple Leafs; Calvin Heeter made 16 saves.

Senators 4, Maple Leafs 3 (SO): Milan Michalek's goal in the fourth round of the shootout was the difference in the Senators' win against the Maple Leafs at Air Canada Centre.

Alex Chiasson (shorthanded) and Ryan Dzingel scored in the third period to help Ottawa rally from a 3-1 deficit. Shane Prince scored for the Senators, and Robin Lehner stopped 24 of 27 shots.

Nazem Kadri, Jake Gardiner and James van Riemsdyk scored for Toronto. James Reimer started and stopped all 18 shots he faced before Christopher Gibson allowed three goals on 17 shots.

Oilers 3, Jets 2: Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Bogdan Yakimov and Justin Schultz scored in the second period, and the Edmonton Oilers rallied for a win against the Winnipeg Jets at MTS Centre.

Oilers goalie Tyler Rimmer stopped all 10 shots he faced in the third period. Laurent Brossoit started and made 17 saves.

TJ Galiardi and Matt Halischuk scored for Winnipeg. Michael Hutchinson stopped 28 of 31 shots.

Bruins 2, Capitals 0: Zdeno Chara's power-play goal broke a scoreless tie at 14:17 of the third period in the Boston Bruins' win against the Washington Capitals at TD Garden on Wednesday.

Boston goalies Tuukka Rask (14 saves) and Jeremy Smith (12 saves) combined for the shutout.

Simon Gagne, who is with the Bruins on a tryout, scored an empty-net goal at 19:56.

Capitals goalie Braden Holtby stopped all 21 shots he faced; Pheonix Copley played the third period and made eight saves.

Hurricanes 4, Islanders 2: Ryan Murphy, Jeff Skinner, Andrej Sekera and Nathan Gerbe each had one goal and one assist to lead the Carolina Hurricanes past the New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum.

Hurricanes goalie Drew MacIntyre made 26 saves for the win.

Casey Cizikas' shorthanded goal got the Islanders on the board at 3:26 of the third period after they fell behind 3-0. Ryan Strome scored with 1:27 remaining.

Jaroslav Halak, the Islanders' new No. 1 goaltender, allowed four goals on 23 shots.

Carolina went 3-for-6 on the power play; New York was 0-for-5.

Stars 4, Panthers 3 (SO): Ales Hemsky scored in the fourth round of the shootout to lift the Dallas Stars to a win against the Florida Panthers at BB&T Center.

Patrick Eaves had a goal and an assist for the Stars, and Jussi Rynnas stopped all three shots he faced in the shootout. Rynnas and Jack Campbell each had 11 saves during regulation.

Shane O'Brien, Dave Bolland and Brandon Pirri had goals for the Panthers. Dan Ellis made nine saves, and Michael Houser stopped 19 shots, including eight in overtime.
