Stars re-sign Vernon Fiddler to two-year contract

The Dallas Stars on Wednesday re-signed center Vernon Fiddler to a two-year contract. No financial terms were disclosed, but ESPN.com's Pierre LeBrun reports Fiddler will earn $1 million in 2014-15 and $1.5 million the following season.

Fiddler, 34, had six goals and 23 points in 76 games with Dallas during the 2013-14 season and was second on the team with a 52.2 winning percentage on faceoffs. He had one goal and three points in the Stars' six-game loss to the Anaheim Ducks in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Fiddler has 77 goals, 206 points and 427 penalty minutes in 656 games during 11 NHL seasons with the Nashville Predators, Phoenix Coyotes and Stars. He has three goals and eight points in 29 playoff games.

"As a staff, we all agree that we had a special dressing room and Vern has been a driving force behind shaping that culture," general manager Jim Nill said in a statement. "He is a hard-nosed, detailed player that brings intensity and passion to the game every time he steps on the ice. We value everything that he brings to the table and are thrilled to keep him in the fold for the next two seasons."

The Stars also signed forward Brendan Ranford to a three-year, entry-level contract. Ranford had 12 goals and 33 points in 65 games for the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League last season, then scored eight goals and had 16 points in 21 games to help Texas win the Calder Cup.
