Lewis: Kings found a way to win Game 2

Los Angeles Kings forward Trevor Lewis will be blogging for NHL.com throughout the Stanley Cup Final, offering his insight on what is happening inside the walls of his team's dressing room and within the confines of the rink.

LOS ANGELES -- This was definitely the second game in a row where we didn't want to come out and start like that, but we found a way.

We didn't want to spot them a couple of goals and give them the lead, but as the game went along I think we started to play better. In the third period we started to pick it up a little bit. We had more chances and got two goals in there and once again found a way to inch one out.

I had to play for a while without a stick during a shift on the penalty kill during the second period. I saw there was a shot from the point and Slava [Voynov] blocked it with his stick. I saw him throw his stick away, and at that point you've got to do whatever you can from there.

He's right-handed so I handed him my stick. It is a tough thing to be out there like that. You always want to look over at the bench and try to get over to it, but in the second period it is tough because it is on the other side.

[Jeff Carter] did a great job of talking to me and letting me know where to be so I was in shooting lanes. He kind of forced everything to the outside. It is a little bit different of a play when one guy doesn't have a stick. You have to try and hold in the lanes and deflect everything to the outside.

There was a shot from the point that I blocked. When you've got no stick, you've got to do whatever you can do to get in front of it. We were lucky to get it out and keep going from there.

For the second straight game against the Rangers it went to overtime. We've been through so many overtimes before. We've got great leadership, and everyone knows what to do.

During the intermissions everyone is talking. Everyone is asking, "Who wants to be the hero?" You know it is just one chance and one shot, and we had a great chance to take two games in our building.

It's just one shot, so everyone is trying to get pucks to the net. [Dustin Brown] made a great play to help get it out to [Willie Mitchell], and then he went to the front and tipped one home.

From now until Game 3 on Monday (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, RDS), it is all about rest and recovery. It is about getting as many fluids in you as can. We've got an early flight [Sunday] so we'll try to get some rest on the plane. We'll watch some tape and see where the places are that we can clean it up and get ready for Game 3.

I sit at the card table on the plane. I play a lot of cards normally, but I'm sure with the early flight guys are going to want to rest and recover. We play all kinds of card games. Usually it is whatever [Mitchell] can play. He's not the best card player, so we've got to go with whatever he can play.

I'll probably just download a couple of movies and watch them.
