TORONTO - The Sarnia Sting will select defenceman Jakob Chychrun with the first pick of this year's Ontario Hockey League draft.

The Sting made the announcement on Friday, a day in advance of Saturday's draft.

The six-foot-two, 200-pound defenceman plays for the Toronto Junior Canadiens of the Greater Toronto Hockey League.

The 16-year-old had 16 goals and 27 assists in 29 games this season.

He was also the youngest member of Ontario's team at the U17 World Challenge, where he had a goal and three assists in five games.

Jakob Chychrun is the son of former NHL defenceman Jeff Chychrun, who won a Stanley Cup in 1992 with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
