Wild's Backstrom, Zucker out for remainder of season

Minnesota Wild goaltender Niklas Backstrom underwent successful core muscle surgery Tuesday in Philadelphia. The Wild said Wednesday that Backstrom is expected to miss the remainder of this season but should be fully recovered for the start of 2014-15.

Backstrom went 5-11-2 with an .899 save percentage and 3.02 goals-against average in 21 games. He has not played since Jan. 30.

The Wild also said forward Jason Zucker underwent successful surgery Tuesday to repair a tendon in his left quadriceps. That operation was performed at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. Zucker will miss the remainder of this season and is expected to be fully recovered for the start of 2014-15.

Zucker scored four goals and had one assist in 21 games this season. He has been out since Feb. 6.
