Flames sign Kulak to entry-level contract

The Calgary Flames on Tuesday signed defenseman Brett Kulak from the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League to a three-year entry-level contract worth $2.45 million.

Kulak, a native of Stony Plain, Alberta, is in his third full season with the Giants. He's tied for eighth in WHL scoring among defensemen with 14 goals and 46 assists for 60 points and 51 penalty minutes in 69 games.

Kulak, a fourth-round pick (No. 105) in the 2012 NHL Draft, was scoreless in four games with the Abbotsford Heat at the conclusion of last season.
