Reimer likely to get start for Maple Leafs on Sunday

Goalie James Reimer is likely to start for the Toronto Maple Leafs against the Washington Capitals on Sunday with Jonathan Bernier sidelined by a lower-body injury that may require an MRI.

According to TSN, Bernier did not practice Saturday after he was injured during the first period Thursday against the Los Angeles Kings.

Reimer relieved Bernier in the Maple Leafs' 3-2 victory, a game in which they trailed 2-0.

Coach Randy Carlyle told TSN that Bernier received treatment Saturday and could require an MRI.

"We don't think it's that severe, but you always want to make sure," Carlyle said.

Sunday would be Reimer's third straight game, the third time this season he has played three in a row.

"You can work on stuff in practice, but to get in a groove, you've got to get in there on multiple nights; feel the game, feel the flow," Reimer said.

He is 11-8-1 with a 3.23 goals-against average and .914 save percentage in 27 games. He made 31 saves in scoreless relief Thursday, his first win since Jan. 21.

The Maple Leafs recalled goalie Drew MacIntyre from the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.

Defenseman Dion Phaneuf (illness) did not practice.
