OHL Roundup: McGinn scores twice as Storm extend win streak to seven games

GUELPH, Ont. - Brock McGinn scored twice as the Guelph Storm doubled up the Owen Sound Attack 4-2 on Friday in Ontario Hockey Legaue action.

Pius Suter and Zack Mitchell also scored for the Storm (36-8-3), who extended their win streak to seven games, while Matt Finn and Kerby Rychel each added two assists.

The Attack (21-20-6) got goals from Holden Cooke and Jeffrey Gilligan.

Justin Nichols made 28 saves for Guelph while Owen Sound's Jack Flinn kicked out 37-of-41 shots in a losing cause.

ICEDOGS 4 OTTERS 3

ERIE, Pa. — Jon D'Ilario stopped 37 shots in his OHL debut as Niagara slipped past the Otters.

Carter Verhaeghe and Anthony DiFruscia each had two goals and an assist for the IceDogs (17-24-6), who went 3-for-4 on the power play, and Billy Jenkins had two assists.

Andre Burakovsky scored twice for Erie (35-9-2) and Connor Brown had a goal and an assist, which gives him a league-best 94 points in 46 games.

Oscar Dansk stopped 17-of-21 shots for the Otters.

GENERALS 6 PETES 1

OSHAWA, Ont. — Michael Dal Colle scored twice and set up one more as the Generals halted Peterborough's five-game win streak.

Mitchell Vande Sompel and Dylan Smoskowitz each had a goal and two assists for Oshawa (31-12-4), which won its fifth game in a row. Josh Sterk and Joe Manchurek had the others.

Clark Seymour scored the lone goal for the Petes (21-22-4).

Daniel Altshuller made 32 saves for the Generals as Peterborough's Andrew D'Aogostini stopped 31-of-36 shots in defeat.

SPITFIRES 5 GREYHOUNDS 2

SAULT STE. MARIE, Ont. — Remy Giftopoulos had a pair of goals and Alex Fotinos made 27 saves as Windsor toppled the Greyhounds.

Ben Johnson, Brody Milne and Sam Povorozniouk also scored for the Spitfires (28-17-2) while Josh-Ho Sang tacked on three assists.

Andrew Fritsch and Bryan Moore scored for Sault Ste. Marie (32-11-5), which had its six-game win streak snapped.

Matt Murray turned aside 29-of-34 shots for the Greyhounds.

RANGERS 5 WHALERS 1

KITCHENER, Ont. — Jordan DeKort turned away 29-of-30 shots as the Rangers toppled Plymouth to end a five-game slide.

Ben Fanelli, Mason Kohn and Matia Marcantuoni each had a goal and an assist for Kitchener (16-28-2) while Brent Pedersen and Darby Llewellyn had the others.

Zach Lorentz supplied the offence for the Whalers (17-24-5).

Plymouth's Alex Nedeljkovic made 44 saves in a losing cause.

KNIGHTS 8 STING 1

LONDON, Ont. — Chris Tierney scored twice and nine other Knights players recorded a multi-point game as London hammered Sarnia.

Gemel Smith, Brett Welychka, Ryan Rupert, Nikita Zadorov and Josh Anderson each had a goal and an assist for London (30-11-5) while Max Domi, Matt Rupert, Brady Austin and Mitchell Marner had two assists apiece.

Michael McCarron had a single goal for London and Jake Patterson made 21 saves for the victory.

Nathan Mater scored the lone goal for the Sting (14-27-5), who dropped their fourth straight contest, while Brodie Barrick and Taylor Dupuis combined to stop 48-of-56 shots in defeat.

STEELHEADS 4 67's 3

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — Josh Burnside and Jesse Barwell scored 14 seconds apart in the final minute of the second period as the Steelheads held on to defeat Ottawa.

Damian Bourne and Sam Babinstev also scored for Mississauga (18-27-4), which had a 3-0 lead before the 67's could respond midway through the third period, and Bryson Ciafrone chipped in with two assists.

Travis Konecny scored twice for Ottawa (15-27-4), who dropped its third straight contest, and set up Erik Bradford's goal as well.

Spencer Martin made 20 saves for the Steelheads. Philippe Trudeau turned away 31 shots for the 67's.

SPIRIT 3 WOLVES 2 (SO)

SUDBURY, Ont. — Blake Clarke scored the shootout winner as Saginaw handed the Wolves their fourth loss in a row.

Justin Sefton and Michael Holmes scored in regulation for the Spirit (23-19-5).

Sudbury (25-13-8) got goals from Jacob Harris and Connor Crisp while Danny Desrochers assisted on both.

Jake Paterson made 35 saves for Saginaw as Franky Palazesse turned away 43 shots for the Wolves.
