ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Two quick goals led the Toronto Marlies past the St. John's IceCaps 3-2 in American Hockey League action Friday.
Petter Granberg, Sam Carrick and Peter Holland scored for the Marlies (20-11-3), who had a pair of goals in the first three minutes of the game.
Andrew Gordon and Kael Mouillierat replied for St. John's (18-15-3).
Granberg opened the scoring, finding the net through traffic with a shot that changed direction on the way through just 1:21 into the game.
At the 3:02 mark of the first, Holland scored an easy tap-in as IceCaps goalie Eddie Pasquale was caught out of his net by some crisp passing on the power play.
Carrick tipped home a Josh Leivo point shot for the Marlies with 1:17 left in the second.
Mouillierat scored a one-timer in the slot off a cross-ice pass from JC Lipon to open the scoring for the IceCaps at the 5:17 mark of the third period on the power play.
Andrew Gordon picked up his own rebound and beat a sprawling Drew MacIntyre to bring the score to within one for the IceCaps with 6:34 left in the third.
Pasquale made 27 saves for the IceCaps. MacIntyre stopped 31 for Toronto.
