Ducks hire Steve Tambellini as part-time pro scout

The Anaheim Ducks named former Edmonton Oilers general manager Steve Tambellini to a part-time professional scouting position, the team announced Wednesday night.

Tambellini, 55, was Oilers GM from 2008-13. Prior to joining the Oilers, Tambellini worked with the Vancouver Canucks' front office from 1990-2008. Beginning as the Director of Public and Media Relations, Tambellini went on to become Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations, Vice President of Player Personnel and Assistant General Manager.

Tambellini also had multiple management stints with Hockey Canada. He served as Director of Player Personnel for the gold medal-winning team at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City. In addition, Tambellini served as Director of Player Personnel for Canada at the 2004 World Cup of Hockey, which won the gold medal. He was also GM for Canada at the 2003 and 2005 IIHF World Championships, winning gold in 2003 (Finland) and silver in 2005 (Austria).

Selected by the New York Islanders in the first round (No. 15) of the 1978 NHL Entry Draft, Tambellini played 553 career NHL games, collecting 160 goals, 150 assists and 105 penalty minutes. He was a member of the Islanders' Stanley Cup-winning squad in 1980.
