Former Ranger, Red Wing Reg Sinclair dies

Reg Sinclair, who played for the New York Rangers and Detroit Red Wings in the early 1950s, died Thursday in Quispamsis, New Brunswick, at the age of 88. Sinclair's death was announced by McGill University, where he is a member of the school's Sports Hall of Fame.

Sinclair had 49 goals, 92 points and 139 penalty minutes in 208 regular-season games. He scored 18 goals and led all rookies with 39 points as a 25-year-old with the Rangers in 1950-51, earning a berth in the All-Star Game. He scored 20 goals in 1951-52, again earning a spot in the All-Star Game, but the Rangers traded him to Detroit in the summer of 1952.

Sinclair scored 11 goals and had 23 points with the Red Wings in 1952-53 and scored once in three Stanley Cup Playoffs games before leaving hockey.

Sinclair served in the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1943-45. After World War II, he enrolled at McGill, where he scored 53 goals in 52 games and set a school single-game record that still stands with 10 points against the University of Montreal on Feb. 25, 1949.
