MONTREAL - The Montreal Canadiens assigned right-winger Christian Thomas to the American Hockey League's Hamilton Bulldogs on Friday.

Thomas, the son of former NHL forward Steve Thomas, has returned from an injury suffered in training camp.

The 21-year-old was acquired July 2 from the New York Rangers in exchange for prospect Danny Kristo. Thomas played one game for the Rangers last season.

On Thursday, the Bulldogs released forward Akim Aliu, who had been on a professional player tryout contract.
