Shaw, Blackhawks agree to two-year extension

The Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday agreed to terms with forward Andrew Shaw on a two-year contract extension. The club did not disclose financial terms of the contract that will keep Shaw with the franchise through the 2015-16 season, but TSN's Bob McKenzie reports it has an average annual value of $2 million.

Shaw was in the final season of his three-year, entry-level contract and could have become a restricted free agent in July 2014.

"It's great to come to this agreement with Andrew and keep another important member of our team here in Chicago," Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman said. "Andrew has proven his ability to play a prominent role on our team and we look forward to watching him continue to grow as a player for the Blackhawks."

Shaw, 22, has four goals and seven assists in 18 games this season. He had five goals and four assists in 23 games in the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs as the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup for the second time in four seasons.

A 2011 fifth-round draft pick (No. 139), Shaw has 25 goals and 24 assists in 103 NHL games.
