AP INTERVIEW: Leonsis gives himself failing grade for Capitals, incomplete for Wizards

WASHINGTON - Ted Leonsis gives himself a failing grade when it comes to the Washington Capitals because they've yet to win a Stanley Cup.

Leonsis says "it's too early to tell" when it comes to the Washington Wizards because the team has been rebuilding since he took control in 2010, but he added: "I believe it's time for the Wizards to take that next step."

The owner of both franchises told The Associated Press on Tuesday that he grades himself "harshly" over the Capitals because they've become one of the NHL's most successful teams over the last decade without getting the ultimate payoff.

Says Leonsis: "We're past now saying (that) making the playoffs makes for a successful season."

Leonsis grades himself a "strong B" for the business side of both teams.
