The Buffalo Sabres announced Sunday that forward Patrick Kaleta cleared waivers and has been assigned to the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League.

The Sabres placed Kaleta, who completed a 10-game suspension due to his hit to the head of Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Jack Johnson on Oct. 10, on waivers Saturday. General manager Darcy Regier's attempts to trade Kaleta went to no avail.

"Not being able to do that, waivers was the next thing," Regier said Saturday. "One of the opportunities he gets is working on his game by creating some space beyond how they currently view him and how they will view him in the future. I have no question about his ability to do that. I really believe he can change. He’s 27 and he has the ability to do that and be an effective player in the NHL."

Kaleta has 27 goals, 51 points and 506 penalty minutes in 306 games for the Sabres.
