Sedin twins sign four-year contract extensions with Vancouver Canucks

VANCOUVER - Twin superstars Daniel and Henrik Sedin have signed four-year contract extensions with the Vancouver Canucks.

Henrik Sedin — the Canucks captain — leads the NHL this season with 15 assists and is tied for second with 18 points, entering Friday's games. Daniel Sedin is tied for seventh with 15 points (six goals, nine assists).

Both have played their entire careers in Vancouver. Daniel was drafted second overall and Henrik was taken third in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.

"Daniel and Henrik are exemplary leaders, teammates and humanitarians and we're very pleased to have them as part of our team for the long-term," Canucks general manager Mike Gillis said in a statement. "Few players in the history of this club have had more significant roles in contributing to the success of this team and to our community and we look forward to many more years with their positive influence leading the way."

Henrik Sedin holds franchise records for most points (792), assists (610), and consecutive games played (629). He also has a franchise-best plus-200 rating.

The native of Ornskoldsvik, Sweden, native ranks second in franchise history in games played (940) and third in game-winning goals (33).

Daniel Sedin ranks second in team history with 773 points. Both brothers eclipsed former franchise leader and fellow Swede Markus Naslund last season.
