LEWISTON, Maine - Carl Klingberg fired two goals and added an assist as the St. John's IceCaps dominated the Portland Pirates 5-1 on Wednesday in American Hockey League play.

Andrew Gordon, John Albert and Jason Jaffray all collected a goal and an assist for the IceCaps (4-5-1), while Eddie Pasquale made 32 saves for the win.

Brandon Yip was the lone scorer for Portland (2-4-1). Mark Visentin started in net and stopped 21 of 25 shots in 34:16 of work, getting pulled after Gordon's goal. Louis Domingue turned aside 13 of 14 shots in relief.

St. John's opened the scoring 2:20 into the first during four-on-four play. Gordon fed a pass from behind the net to Klingberg, who deposited his second of the season.

The IceCaps exploded for three goals in the second period. Albert scored on a pass from Blair Riley and Klingberg at 4:39, then Jaffray fired a rocket from the blue-line on the power play at 12:30 and Gordon collected his fifth of the campaign — with the teams playing four aside — at the 14:16 mark of the period.
