OHL Roundup: Smoskowitz scores shootout winner to lead Steelheads over Wolves

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. - Dylan Smoskowitz scored twice, including the only goal of a shootout to lead the Mississauga Steelheads to a 5-4 victory over the Sudbury Wolves in Ontario Hockey League play on Sunday.

Bryson Cianfrone also picked up two goals for the Steelheads (7-7-1), Trevor Carrick added another, and Josh Burnside pitched in with three assists.

Nathan Pancel scored his 14th and 15th goals of the season for Sudbury (5-3-6), and Danny Desrochers and Austin Veleke added the other Wolves' goals.

Mississauga goalie Dawson Carty allowed two goals on four shots through 12 minutes of play. He was replaced in the first period by Spencer Martin, who made 37 saves. Sudbury's Franky Palazzese stopped 34 shots.

STORM 7 KNIGHTS 4

GUELPH, Ont. — Adam Craievich scored twice, Tyler Bertuzzi, Steven Trojanovic, and Matt Finn each added a goal and an assist, and Justin Nichols turned away 36 shots as the Storm downed London.

Brock McGinn scored his 15th of the season, Zack Mitchell added another, and Robby Fabbri chipped in with three assists for Guelph (12-3-0), who went 3-for-9 on the power play.

Christian Dvorak had a goal and an assist for the Knights (8-5-1), Matt Rupert and Chris Tiemey each scored, and Brady Austin chipped in with London's only power-play goal in six opportunities.

Anthony Stolarz started in net for the Knights but was pulled halfway through the first period after allowing two goals on 11 shots. Jake Patterson made 15 saves in relief.

BATTALION 3 BULLS 2 (OT)

NORTH BAY, Ont. — Vincent Praplan scored at 1:21 of overtime as North Bay edged Belleville and give the Battalion its eighth win of the season.

Defenceman Brenden Miller scored on a power play and centre Nick Paul rounded out the offence for North Bay (8-7-1), while Mike Amadio added two assists.

Nick Petti opened the scoring for the Bulls (3-9-3) and Brenden Gaunce tied the game 2-2 with his eighth goal of the season at 10:37 of the third period.

North Bay goalie Brendan O'Neill made 24 saves while Belleville's Charlie Graham stopped 25 shots.

SPITFIRES 5 ATTACK 4 (OT)

OWEN SOUND, Ont. — Defenceman Trevor Murphy picked a good time to score his first goal of the season as he picked up the overtime winner to lift Windsor over Owen Sound.

Cristiano DiGiacinto opened the scoring, Ho-Sang Josh and Remy Giftopoulos both had a goal and an assist, and Nick Ebert chipped in with his third goal of the season for the Spitfires (8-6-0).

Gemel Smith scored twice for the Attack (7-6-2), and Daniel Milne and Jaden Lindo each had a goal. Brandon Hope made 42 saves in the loss.

Windsor's Alex Fotinos stopped all three shots he faced in 14:22 of action. He was replaced by Dalen Kuchmey, who stopped 37 of 41 shots through 49:56.

GENERALS 5 ICEDOGS 4

OSHAWA, Ont. — Cole Cassels and Joe Manchurek each had two goals and an assist as the Generals toppled Niagara.

Josh Sterk had a goal and three assists for Oshawa (11-3-1), which trailed 4-2 heading into the final period.

Jordan Maletta and Eric Ming had a goal and an assist apiece for the IceDogs (5-7-3) while Mike Robinson and Brendan Perlini scored the others.

Daniel Althsuller made 21 saves for the Generals as Niagara's Christopher Festarini stopped 30 shots in a losing cause.
