Jets place Trouba on injured reserve

The Winnipeg Jets on Saturday placed defenseman Jacob Trouba on injured reserve, and recalled defenseman Adam Pardy from St. John's of the American Hockey League.

Trouba was injured when he fell face-first into the boards 2:50 into the second period of the Jets' game Friday against the St. Louis Blues.

Trouba remained down for several minutes before medical personnel removed him from the ice on a stretcher. Trouba was awake while leaving and managed a slight wave to the MTS Centre crowd. He was taken to a Winnipeg-area hospital for X-rays but was released a few hours later. The team announced Trouba was alert and able to move his arms and legs.

"Thanks for the support," he wrote on his Twitter account early Saturday morning. "If you were wondering, the boards are not edible. I'll be back soon."

"It was pretty scary," Jets coach Claude Noel said after the game. "Anytime they call out a stretcher, it's never a good moment, regardless of which team it is."

Trouba, taken by the Jets with the ninth pick of the 2012 NHL Draft, has one goal and one assist in eight games while averaging 21:15 of ice time per game.

The Jets also lost defenseman Mark Stuart during the game due to a lower-body injury.

Pardy, 29, has no points and nine penalty minutes in three AHL games. He's played parts of eight NHL seasons with the Calgary Flames, Dallas Stars and Buffalo Sabres, totaling 33 points and 171 penalty minutes in 200 games.
