CHICAGO - A month after leading the Chicago Blackhawks to a Stanley Cup championship, Joel Quenneville has been rewarded with a three-year contract extension.

The team announced the move Friday.

The Blackhawks won the President's Trophy this year with 77 points in a lockout-shortened 48-game season.

They went on to beat the Boston Bruins in the Stanley Cup final.

With Quenneville at the helm, the Blackhawks have compiled a 222-106-44 record.

He holds a franchise-best .656 regular-season points percentage, while his .613 post-season winning percentage (46-29) is the highest for a Blackhawks coach since 1940.

Quenneville is the only head coach in franchise history to win two Stanley Cups.
