Blackhawks re-sign Rozsival, Handzus

The Chicago Blackhawks are keeping two veterans who contributed on their Stanley Cup championship team in the fold.

Chicago announced Friday that it has re-signed defenseman Michal Rozsival to a two-year contract and center Michal Handzus to a one-year contract. Dollar amounts were not disclosed.

Rozsival, who signed a one-year contract with the Blackhawks last September, played most of the regular season in a platoon role as the sixth defenseman with Sheldon Brookbank, but he appeared in every game in the Stanley Cup Playoffs and his ice time increased as he moved into the No. 5 role, in front of Nick Leddy.

Rozsival, 34, had 12 assists in 27 regular-season games and four assists in 23 playoff games. He has played 783 regular-season games in his NHL career with the Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Rangers, Phoenix Coyotes and Blackhawks.

Chicago acquired Handzus in a trade on April 1 and originally thought he would be a depth center. Handzus turned into the Blackhawks' second-line center in the playoffs and had 11 points, on three goals and eight assists, in 23 games.

Handzus has played in 950 career regular-season games.
