Penguins trade Tyler Kennedy to Sharks

NEWARK, N.J. -- Shortly before the 2013 NHL Draft got underway, the Pittsburgh Penguins traded forward Tyler Kennedy to the San Jose Sharks for a second-round pick (No. 50). Kennedy is scheduled to be a restricted free agent if he is not signed before July 5. The Penguins did not have a pick before the third round prior to the trade. They now have seven picks in total.

The Sharks already had the No. 20 pick and the No. 49 pick, which they acquired from the New York Rangers on April 2 in the trade that sent forward Ryane Clowe to the Big Apple. San Jose also has the No. 58 pick, which it got in a late-season trade from the Penguins in exchange for defenseman Douglas Murray.

"Tyler is a highly competitive forward who plays with speed and has a history of scoring big goals," Sharks general manager Doug Wilson said. "He has played in a lot of playoff games over the last past five seasons, won a Stanley Cup and we think he fits in perfectly with our group and how we want to play the game."

Kennedy had 11 points in 46 games for the Penguins in 2012-13, then put up five points in nine games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. He had 168 points in 372 games with the Penguins during the past six seasons.
