Boston Bruins defenseman Andrew Ference faces a hearing Thursday afternoon with the NHL Department of Player Safety for an incident that occurred during Game 1 of the Bruins' Eastern Conference Quarterfinal game against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday.
The following grounds for potential supplemental discipline are being considered: Illegal check to the head. However, the Department of Player Safety retains the right to make adjustments to these infractions accordingly upon further review.
The incident occurred at 13:03 of the first period. Ference made contact with Maple Leafs forward Mikhail Grabovski while chasing a loose puck along the boards in the Boston end. No penalty was called on the play, and Grabovski remained in the game.
The Bruins won the game 4-1.
