Canucks' Sedin plays one shift to extend streak

Vancouver Canucks captain Henrik Sedin took one shift against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday to extend his consecutive games played streak to 629.

Sedin took the ice on the Canucks' third line change and played 22 seconds. He left the bench after adding to his streak, which is seventh-longest in NHL history.

Locked into the third seed in the Western Conference, the Northwest Division champions scratched several players, including Sedin linemates Daniel Sedin and Alexandre Burrows. Defensemen Alexander Edler, Jason Garrison, Dan Hamhuis and Christopher Tanev also did not play.

Henrik is one game behind Andy Hebenton on the all-time list.

Ahead of them is Jay Bouwmeester of the St. Louis Blues, who was able to extend his active streak to 637 despite the logistics of an NHL Trade Deadline deal away from the Calgary Flames.

Doug Jarvis holds the all-time record of 964, established from 1975-88.
