Lanigan has 42 saves in Tigers win as Medicine Hat takes 1-0 playoff series lead

SASKATOON - Goaltender Cam Lanigan made 42 saves as the Medicine Hat Tigers dispatched the Saskatoon Blades 4-1 on Thursday to take a 1-0 lead in their Western Hockey League first-round playoff series.

Trevor Cox and Elgin Pearce both had a goal and an assist for Medicine Hat, while Dylan Bredo and captain Hunter Shinkaruk chipped in as well.

Andrey Makarov stopped 29 shots for Saskatoon, while Shane McColgan was the Blades' lone scorer.

The Tigers went 0 for 2 on the power play and McColgan scored on Saskatoon's only man advantage.

Cox and Shinkaruk gave Medicine Hat a 2-0 lead at the first intermission. McColgan then brought the Blades to within one in the second period.

Pearce made it 3-1 early in the third and then Bredo added extra insurance with an empty-net goal with 13 seconds left in the game.
