Lupul suspended two games for illegal check

NEW YORK -- Toronto Maple Leafs forward Joffrey Lupul has been suspended for two games, without pay, for an illegal check to the head of Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman during NHL Game No. 438 in Toronto on Wednesday, March 20, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.

The incident occurred at 0:45 of the third period. Lupul was assessed a two-minute minor for an illegal check to the head (Rule 48).

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and based on his average annual salary, Lupul will forfeit $45,945.94. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
