Lessio scores all three goals as Generals down Wolves in OT

OSHAWA, Ont. - Lucas Lessio completed a hat trick with 12 seconds left in overtime to lead the Oshawa Generals to a 3-2 win over the Sudbury Wolves in Ontario Hockey League action.

The tying and winning goals were both scored on terrific feeds from rookie Michael Dal Colle, while Cole Cassels also drew an assist on the final goal.

The game meant nothing in the standings, with the Generals (42-22-4) locked into the third seed in the Eastern Conference and the Wolves (29-27-12) likewise in fifth.

Ken Appleby made 17 saves for the win.

Ray Huether and Nicholas Baptiste scored for the Wolves and Taylor Dupuis stopped 36-of-39 shots in defeat.

Lessio opened the scoring for the Generals with four seconds left in the first period, a four-on-four goal scored off a draw won by Brian Hughes.

Huether tied the game for the Wolves on the same four-on-four, off a rebound 1:56 into the second period.

Nicholas Baptiste gave Sudbury the lead on a penalty shot, beating Appleby high to the glove side.

Lessio's second goal tied the game 7:09 into the third period.

Oshawa went 0 for 5 on the power play while Sudbury failed to score on two chances with the man advantage.

The Generals will face the sixth-seeded Niagara IceDogs in a first-round matchup while the Wolves will play the fourth-ranked Brampton Battalion.
