Heard two goals, Nedeljkovic 24 saves as the Whalers blank the Steelheads

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. - Mitchell Heard scored a pair of goals to lead the Plymouth Whalers to a 5-0 victory over the host Mississauga Steelheads Sunday in Ontario Hockey League play.

Rookie Alex Nedeljkovic made 24 saves for his third shutout of the season, improving his record to 17-2-2.

Zach Lorentz, Vincent Trocheck and Cody Payne also scored for the Whalers (37-17-9), who are winners of nine of their last 10 games.

Trocheck's goal extends his point streak to 16 games and he has 19 goals and 35 points during his run.

Tyson Teichmann made 31 saves for the Steelheads (25-32-5), who have lost five straight games.

Plymouth jumped out to a 2-0 lead before the halfway point of the first period on goals from Lorentz and Heard.

Heard added his second goal in the second period to make it 3-0 after 40 minutes of action.

Trocheck and Payne scored 61 seconds apart in the third period to round out Plymouth's offence.

The Whalers went 0 for 3 on the power play while the Steelheads finished 0 for 5.
