Jamal Watson has two goals as Hurricanes down Victoria Royals 5-4

VICTORIA - Jamal Watson had a pair of goals as the Lethbridge Hurricanes upend the Victoria Royals 5-4 on Wednesday night in Western Hockey League action.

Jaimen Yakubowski, Sam McKechnie and Adam Henry also scored for the Hurricanes (26-28-9).

Logan Nelson, with two, Jordan Fransoo and Jamie Crooks responded for the Royals (32-25-5).

The Hurricanes stormed out to a three-goal lead in the first period with goals by Watson, Yakubowski and McKechnie, who scored on the power play to make it 3-0.

Nelson responded for Victoria, scoring a pair of goals in the first for his ninth and 10th of the season to make it a one a goal game heading to the second.

The Royals pulled even midway through the second period on the power play as Fransoo fired home the one-timer to tie the game.

The Hurricanes regained the lead as Henry squeaked in a shot five-hole to make a 4-3 after 40 minutes.

Watson scored his second of the game shorthanded in the third to make it a two-goal game for the Hurricanes.

The Royals scored with 27 seconds remaining in the game as Crooks buried his 31 of the year, but that is as close as Victoria would come.

Lethbridge net minder, Ty Rimmer, made 44 saves for the victory, while Royals’ goaltender Coleman Vollrath made 19 saves.
