Pietroniro scores winner as Shawinigan Cataractes edge Saint John Sea Dogs 3-2

SAINT JOHN, N.B. - Phil Pietroniro scored the winning goal with under three minutes left to play as the Shawinigan Cataractes edged the Saint John Sea Dogs 3-2 on Thursday in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Frank Schumacher and Frederick Gaudreau also scored for the Cataractes (14-34-7), with Marvin Cupper making 32 saves.

Michael Abbott scored his first Sea Dogs goal and Jakub Izacky added to his team lead (17) with another for Saint John (20-33-1), which dropped their second straight. Sebastien Auger made 23 saves on 26 shots.

Schumacher made it 1-0 Cataractes at 8:52 on a 3-on-1, the only scoring play of the period.

The Cataractes extended their lead to 2-0 on a goal by the captain Gaudreau, whose shot trickled past Auger at 6:56 of the second.

In the third Stephen Anderson found Abbott alone on the point where he teed up his first as a Sea Dog at 7:16.

Nine minutes later the Sea Dogs tied it when Cupper made a save on Pierre Durepos but Izacky followed up and banged home the rebound.
