The Calgary Flames have placed goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff and center Mikael Backlund on injured reserve.

Kiprusoff suffered a lower-body injury in the second period of the Flames’ 4-1 victory at Detroit on Tuesday. He did not play the third period and sat out Thursday’s 4-3 overtime win. Kiprusoff was added to the IR retroactively on Friday and is listed as day-to-day with a lower-body injury.

Backlund is expected to miss four to six weeks with a sprained knee ligament.

The Flames activated defensemen Anton Babchuk, who has yet to play this season, and recalled center Ben Street from Abbotsford of the AHL, where he was leading the Heat in scoring.

Center Michael Cammalleri is still day-to-day with a hip flexor injury; rookie Sven Baertschi is week-to-week with the same injury.
