QMJHL Roundup: Val-d'Or Foreurs rout Shawinigan Cataractes 8-1

Brandon Hynes had two goals and two assists Tuesday as the Val-d'Or Foreurs pummelled the Shawinigan Cataractes 8-1 in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Anthony Mantha added two goals and an assist for the Foreurs (27-22-3), while Cedrick Henley chipped in with a goal and two assists.

Samuel Henley, with a goal and an assist, Vincent Dunn and Loik Poudrier also scored for Val d'Or, which got 26 saves from Francois Tremblay.

Mason Gray had the only goal for Shawinigan (12-33-6). Marvin Cupper stopped 47 shots in taking the loss.

In the only other game in the QMJHL, Gatineau downed Quebec 4-3.

At Val-d'Or, Que., leading 3-0 after the first period, the Foreurs had goals from Mantha and Dunn less than three minutes apart midway through the second to stretch the lead to five.

Gray got one back for Shawinigan 30 seconds later, but Mantha, Henley and Hynes all scored in the third period to complete the rout.

Val-d'Or finished the night 1-for-5 on the power play, while Shawinigan was scoreless on three chances.

Olympiques 4, Remparts 3

At Gatineau, Que., Anthony Verret scored the winner with 3:19 left in the third period as the Olympiques (24-24-3) defeated Quebec City (29-19-3).
