Sharks acquire Grant from Rangers

The San Jose Sharks acquired forward Tommy Grant and a conditional seventh-round selection in the 2014 NHL Draft from the New York Rangers on Wednesday night in exchange for forward Brandon Mashinter.

Grant, 26, had 16 points (nine goals, seven assists) in 34 games with Connecticut (AHL) this season. Last season with Connecticut, the 6-foot-2, 195-pound North Vancouver, British Columbia native notched 23 points (11 goals, 12 assists) with 39 penalty minutes in 72 games.

Grant has been assigned to Worcester, San Jose's AHL affiliate.

Mashinter, 24, played in 30 games this season with Worcester, tallying five points (two goals, three assists) and 44 penalty minutes. He appeared in 236 games with Worcester in the last four seasons, recording 108 points (54 goals, 54 assists) and 324 penalty minutes. In 2010-11, Mashinter played 13 games with San Jose, registering 17 penalty minutes.
