Macek with three points as the Hitmen beat the Warriors

CALGARY - Brooks Macek had a goal and two assists to lead the Calgary Hitmen to a 6-1 win over the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors in Western Hockey League action on Friday.

Cody Sylvester had a goal and an assist for the Hitmen (26-10-4), while rookie defenceman Colby Harmsworth set up three of Calgary’s goals. Alex Roach, Pavlo Padakin, Brendan Hurley and Zane Jones also scored.

Carter Hansen scored the lone goal of the game for the Warriors (14-19-7), who have lost two straight games and five of their past seven.

Calgary goalie Chris Driedger made 26 saves to improve his record to 21-7-3.

Daniel Wapple started in net for the Warriors and stopped just 5-of-9 shots he faced before he was relieved by Justin Paulic at 14:19 of the second period following Calgary’s fourth goal.

Paulic stopped 7-of-8 shots he faced before Wapple returned to the net for the third period. Wapple then stopped 11 shots in the final period to finish the game with 16 saves.

The Hitmen went 2 for 4 with the man advantage, while also killing off all four power plays awarded to the Warriors.

The Hitmen led 1-0 after the first period on a power-play goal by Roach.

After Hansen scored for Moose Jaw to tie the game, Sylvester scored the eventual game-winning goal at 12:26 of the second period.

Exactly one minute later Padakin put the Hitmen up 3-1 and Jones added another to make it a three-goal game.

Hurley then put the Hitmen up 5-1 late in the second before Macek rounded out the scoring with a goal during a two-man advantage at 9:06 of the third.
